It is the City of Vancouver's intent to initiate a new mode of transportation that will get people onto a greener and healthier path - a bike-share program. The City's goal is to create a clean and energy efficient mode of transportation, which benefits locals, tourists, the economy and our environment. A new bike-share program is convenient, affordable and an exciting new way to see our beautiful city. Covered pick-up/ drop off stations would be set up around the city where people could rent and return bicycles and helmets. Service vehicles and personnel would regularly patrol the stations and equipment and would be on-hand to assist with inquiries and directions.
Velocity is the brand identity created to reflect the City's goals, and it's energetic and fast paced culture. The name itself derives from the french 'velo' (bicycle) plus 'city'- when combined into the single word 'velocity', evokes speed and motion. A bright chartreuse-yellow was selected for the branding elements because of it's high visibility, which is both identifiably unique and safe. The 'v' shaped logo comes from the bicycle tire track pattern. These elements are variously used on the bikes themselves, "spokesperson" t-shirts, rentable helmets, service vehicles and parking stations, as well as for printed collateral and electronic apps.
